Judge sentences life imprisonment on appeal for assaulting Charlie Hebdo NOW

Accomplice of the attack on the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo still sentenced to life imprisonment. Ali Riza Polat had previously been sentenced to 30 years, but the judge gave him a life sentence after appealing.

Another inmate, Amar Ramdani, was sentenced on appeal to a lighter sentence of 13 years. He had previously been sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Polat is said to have helped the attackers with weapons and by planning the terrorist acts. Ramdani has provided weapons. This killed five of the seventeen victims. He would also have financed the proceedings.

Fourteen people were sentenced in the first trial two years ago. Only Polat and Ramdani challenged their sentences.

The massacre of Charlie Hebdo was committed on January 7, 2015 by brothers Said and Cherif Kouachi. They killed twelve people and fled.

The next day, their friend Amedy Coulibaly killed a policewoman in Montrouge, near Paris. The next day, she shot and killed four men during a hostage situation at the Hyper Cacher Jewish supermarket in eastern Paris. The brothers Kouachi and Coulibaly were eventually shot dead during a police action.
