2.4 million over-70s
There are about 2.4 million voters over the age of 70. In addition, according to the Party for the Animals, there are millions of adults with underlying diseases, which means that they are also seen as ‘vulnerable’ by the RIVM.
Earlier, the PvdD tried to arrange postal voting rights for this group of people through a motion, but that did not work.
According to the state attorney, it is “practically not feasible” to significantly expand postal voting for the upcoming elections. “Producing and sending 2.4 million letter ballot papers for anyone aged 70 and over is already a very major operation that is just feasible within the time available,” the state attorney said earlier this month.

‘I’m not going to risk my life’
RTL News spoke previously with kidney patient Valerie van der Flier. She also wants to be able to vote by post. “It is discriminatory and shortsighted. I now have to risk my life for a run to the polls.”
The 41-year-old Van der Flier has been in isolation with her family for almost a year because her kidneys are hardly working anymore. Every step outside increases the risk of corona. “I’ve been forced to go inside for a year. Then I’m not going to risk my life by walking to the polling station.”

Chronic condition
Now voting by post is not possible for everyone, the Party for the Animals hopes that all 70-year-olds with a chronic condition will be able to vote by post. But Minister Ollongren said earlier that this is not feasible because municipalities do not have those figures in a row.
