Judge: Government does not have to relax corona policy in the catering industry | NOW

Koninklijke Horeca Nederland (KHN) has lost a case against the Dutch State about the corona restrictions. The judge ruled on Friday that the government does not need to relax the rules, as the trade association had demanded.

KHN argued that the hospitality industry is not treated the same as other sectors. The case was arrested on July 23; the judge found that the organization and the government should first try to come to an end with further discussions.

After those talks had come to nothing, the trade association asked the judge to rule. A motivation for the opinion will follow later.

Because the court has only published a summary judgment without substantiation, KHN is not yet able to respond substantively, says director Dirk Beljaarts. “We don’t know on what grounds the judge ruled, so we can’t say anything now, except we’re sorry.”

Beljaarts is therefore not yet able to say which possibilities KHN still sees to challenge the corona policy. The reasons for the decision will follow no later than 11 September.

KHN is particularly concerned about the rule that only two people are allowed to sit at a table within a meter and a half. According to the association, this limits the entrepreneurial rights. Moreover, the rules would be much stricter than in other countries.
