A federal judge gave the green light for Vicente Carrillo Fuentes, alias The Viceroywho was the leader of the Juárez cartel, be extradited to the United States. Julio Veredín Sena Velázquez, seventh district judge of amparo in criminal matters, annulled the amparo trial and denied him the protection of federal justice with which the capo intended to stop his surrender to the neighboring country to the north indefinitely.

The brother of the deceased drug trafficker Amado Carrillo Fuentes, The Lord of the Skies, promoted the appeal for protection in September 2023, where he claimed the resolution of July 27, which grants the United States government his extradition to be prosecuted before the Federal Court of the Western District of Texas, as well as its execution.

That month, the judge granted him a definitive suspension against the actions claimed, however, this Thursday Sena Velázquez reported that he dismissed the protection trial and refused to protect the drug trafficker. Due to the ruling, the Secretary of Foreign Affairs (SRE) can continue with the extradition process.

In October 2022, El Viceroy received a new sentence of 20 years in prison for organized crime with the purpose of committing crimes against health. The drug trafficker had already received a 28-year prison sentence for another similar crime, in September 2021, but faces other criminal proceedings.

the lord of the skiesfounder of said criminal organization, died in 1997, when he underwent plastic surgery to change his appearance and thus evade capture. With The Viceroy At the forefront, the Juárez cartel established bases of operations in Valle de Juárez, Guadalupe and Distrito Bravo, Chihuahua, to smuggle drugs and thus supply the United States market.

For this reason, the US government placed him on the most wanted list and offered a reward of 5 million dollars for his capture, while the then Attorney General’s Office also offered 30 million pesos to apprehend him.

Vicente Carrillo was captured in October 2014, in an operation by federal forces in which not a single shot was fired, in Torreón, Coahuila, and was subject to preventive detention at the Federal Center for Social Readaptation 2 West, in Puente Grande, Jalisco.
