Judge gives green light for Sprint giga takeover by T-Mobile | NOW

An American judge approved T-Mobile’s takeover of telecom provider Sprint on Tuesday. This possibly creates one of the largest telecom providers in the United States.

The deal had ended up in court after several US states had voted against the deal. The states, including New York and California, were concerned about a possible lack of competition and possible price increases as a result of the acquisition.

The judge wiped these arguments on Tuesday. Judge Victor Marrero judges that the chance of price increases due to the acquisition is minimal. He also believes that the chance of a reduction in competition is nil.

The acquisition merges the third and fourth mobile telephony provider in the US and opens the attack on market leaders Verizon and AT&T.

New York and California may still appeal the ruling. The New York Attorney General says the state is currently considering appealing. The California Attorney General states that the state is “willing to challenge the verdict.”
