Judge Ghada Aoun Drops Defamation Lawsuit Against MP Ziad Hawat: Explains Reason for Retraction

The Public Prosecutor of Appeal in Mount Lebanon, Judge Ghada Aoun, confirmed to the National News Agency that she had dropped the defamation lawsuit against MP Ziad Hawat since last year.

Aoun explained, through her account on the “X” platform, the reason for her timely retraction of the complaint, and she said: “For those who wonder why I retracted the complaint submitted by me against Representative Ziad Hawat, I will clarify the following: I filed this complaint first and foremost in defense of the dignity of every humiliated judge.” But when I found that this lawsuit was fueling the spirit of division between two Lebanese parties and exacerbating the dispute, I preferred to sacrifice my rights, because the peace of the nation and the homeland transcends everything.”

It is worth mentioning that the first investigating judge in Mount Lebanon, Judge Nicolas Mansour, had requested permission from the Parliament to prosecute Representative Ziad Hawat, within the framework of the lawsuit of defamation, defamation, and threats against Judge Ghada Aoun, which she had previously filed.

For his part, the office of Representative Ziad Hawat confirmed that neither Al-Hawat nor his legal representative have been informed of Judge Mansour’s decision yet and they intend to “take appropriate legal measures” as soon as they receive the decision.
