If the images are still distributed, a fine of 250,000 euros can be imposed. Publisher Springer-Verlag has submitted to the court’s decision.
In August, Bild published photos of the royal couple during their vacation in Greece. The images show the King and Queen in swimwear on board and by their boat Alma. Various media, including some Dutch ones, took over the photos. At the time, the Government Information Service did not want to say whether steps would be taken against the media that had published the photos.
According to the media code promulgated by the Royal Family in 2005, they should not be distributed. The code “aims to protect the privacy of members of the Royal Family”. A number of times, lawsuits have also been filed against media that had published holiday or other private photos of the House of Orange.
