The court has again determined that the Netherlands must bring back a group of IS women with their children from Syria if the Public Prosecution Service does not want to lose the right to persecute the women. The court in Rotterdam ruled in a closed session that twelve women and their 29 children must be collected within four months.
A spokesman for the court confirmed the ruling to NOS after reporting in De Telegraaf.
The Netherlands wants to prosecute women who have gone to Syria to join the terrorist group IS. In order to enable the women to defend themselves, it is necessary that they be brought to the Netherlands, as was previously determined in similar lawsuits. That has been confirmed in today’s verdict. Never before has the judge ruled on such a large group.
In the previous cases, a period of six months was always mentioned to bring the women here. The Rotterdam judge has now determined that it must be completed within four months.
Ilham B.
Earlier this year, the Netherlands collected five IS women and their eleven children from the Kurdish refugee camp Al Roj in northern Syria. They are suspected of participating in a terrorist organization and/or preparing a terrorist crime.
The cabinet was not in favor of bringing the women back, but decided to do so because it did not want to lose the right to prosecution.
Yesterday the Public Prosecution Service demanded 8 years in prison against IS woman Ilham B. for participating in a terrorist organization. She was the first female Syrian traveler to be picked up by the Dutch government from Syria.
