Sandiaga Uno’s spokesperson for politics, Denny H. Suryo Prabowo asked the United Development Party (PPP) to consider political cooperation with PDIP if Sandiaga Uno not selected as vice president Ganjar Pranowo in the 2024 presidential election.
This statement was made by Denny in response to the name Gibran Rakabuming, who is now said to be included in the Ganjar vice presidential exchange.
“We provide advice and input to PPP so that they can reconsider political cooperation with PDIP in the 2024 presidential election if Sandiaga Uno is not selected as vice presidential candidate,” said Denny in his statement, Sunday (20/8).
Denny reminded PDIP to consider a cawapres name from outside the party. He wants PDIP to consider input from other parties supporting Ganjar.
“PDIP is a party that is very mature in politics, we believe PDIP’s decision will also involve its coalition parties,” he said.
On the other hand, Denny encouraged PPP to continue fighting for Sandiaga’s name as Ganjar’s vice presidential candidate. According to him, Sandi has met the electability requirements as cawapres.
He referred to the results of the latest Voxpol survey which placed the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy in the top position as a potential vice president.
“In our opinion, it will be a big loss for PPP if Bang Sandi does not become vice presidential candidate from Ganjar Pranowo at a time when PPP is having a new enthusiasm in achieving a better position in the 2024 election,” said Denny.
The Chairperson of the PDIP DPP, Puan Maharani, previously opened up the opportunity for Gibran to be promoted as vice presidential candidate. The discourse strengthened in line with the lawsuit against the age limit for the presidential and cawapres candidates at the Constitutional Court (MK).
The filing for a judicial review is widely said to be related to the issue of Gibran being supported as a vice presidential candidate.
“We are looking at this. If the Constitutional Court then agrees that there are candidates for vice president under 40 years old, then Mas Gibran could run,” Puan said at the Merdeka Palace, Central Jakarta, Thursday (17/8).
Meanwhile, PPP has officially proposed its new cadre as well as Chair of the Election Winning Sandiaga Uno as vice presidential candidate. However, the decision for the vice presidential candidate for Ganjar rests with PDIP Chairperson Megawati Soekarnoputri.
