Jubilo Iwata 2024 New System Announcement Press Conference and Player Introductions

2024 1/13

On Saturday, January 13th, we held a “2024 New System Announcement Press Conference” at Grand Hotel Hamamatsu.

  • *Shun Nakamura was absent due to poor health.

Representative Director and President Yukimitsu Hamaura

My name is Hamaura from Jubilo Co., Ltd.
At the beginning, I would like to express my condolences to those who lost their lives in the Noto Peninsula Earthquake that occurred on January 1st, and my heart goes out to those affected, their families, and everyone involved. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. I sincerely hope that everyone in the disaster-stricken areas and those working hard for rescue and recovery efforts will be able to return to normal life as soon as possible.

Once again, I wish you a happy new year. Last year, Jubilo Iwata won the J2 League and achieved promotion to J1. I would like to once again thank the players, managers, coaches, and staff for their efforts, as well as the fans and supporters who have continued to support the players. In addition, with the expansion of hometowns, new initiatives such as traveling soccer classes in each region and Enshu tea bread (canned) that uses green tea from all seven cities and one town have increased, and collaboration with the local community has strengthened. I feel it.

Heading into this season, a new system has been put in place to compete in the J1 League, led by Sports Director Toshiya Fujita. Also, as Director Yokouchi enters his second year, we will be adding new members and preparing for the opening of the season. Additionally, we would like to further deepen our ties with the local community and expand the reach of Jubilo Iwata. This year is the year of the dragon. I would like to show you “Jubilo Iwata, which is as dynamic as a rising dragon,” so I look forward to your cooperation. In closing, we at Jubilo Iwata aim to become a stronger and more loved club, so we appreciate your continued support.

Top Team Management Department Toshiya Fujita Sports Director

good morning. This is the first time since I became a sports director that I have had the opportunity to introduce so many athletes to a venue like this. Last year, Keisuke Goto was the only one, so I feel very uncomfortable with the difference, but I am happy to be able to announce this in front of everyone as we welcome the new season. There have been many heart-wrenching events since the beginning of the year, and I sincerely hope for recovery and a return to a peaceful life, but even in the midst of all this, I hope that we can be of some help through sports and football, even if we are in a small way. However, I hope to be able to do something that can help everyone.
The members gathered here today joined Jubilo Iwata due to coincidences and timing. These passionate players will continue to thrive under the guidance of Coach Yokouchi and the coaching staff, and as they did last year, we will enjoy playing fast-paced, aggressive soccer and imaginative soccer, taking care of the ball. I want to work together and do my best to bring out the kind of play on the stadium pitch that will make people enjoy playing football. I hope you can look forward to the new season of Jubilo Iwata in 2024 and watch the dynamic players play. Thank you for your continued support of Jubilo Iwata this season.

Question-and-answer session

–What kind of soccer do you aim for and embody in J1 this season?

Director Yokouchi:
First of all, I personally don’t think there will be any drastic changes in the type of soccer we play from last year. We want to aim for an attack in which we take good care of the ball ourselves, never give up on receiving the ball, and have everyone involved in the ball. Defensively, everyone was involved, from the front line players to the keeper, everyone went to steal the ball, and after stealing the ball, everyone attacked, so we continued to play the style of everyone attacking and everyone playing soccer. I think so.

–Do you have any goals?

Director Yokouchi:
This season we will try the J1 League. First of all, 40 points. We would like to fight with this as our first goal. Of course, it’s easy to say here that we’re aiming for the J1 League championship, but our first goal is to get 40 points, and I don’t know at what point we’ll get to 40 points, but we’ll get there once we get them. I would like to aim for a higher ranking.

–Please tell us about the weapons and strong points of the new players.

Masatoshi Ishida:
When I was in the J-League, dribbling was my strong point, but since I went to the K-League, I’ve started to wonder what my strong point is. The result of me aiming to be above average in everything, in defense, attack, dribbling, and passing, has become a player with an average above average, so although my position is midfield, I can play both right, left, and center to some extent. The feature is that you can also do things, and I think that’s what makes it so strong.

Eiji Kawashima:
I haven’t really thought about my strong points in my playing, but I’ve experienced a lot more than other players, and I’ve also played in Europe for 13 years. I feel that my experience in such a place is something I can give back to myself and the team, so I hope I can make good use of that experience.

Leo Gomez:
What makes me unique is the mark. I think it’s all about how much I can contribute in that area to keep the team from conceding goals, and I think I can help the team attack forward by connecting the ball well when in possession. And, of course, I always want to play with all my might and contribute to the team.

Mateus Payshot:
My characteristics are the complete opposite of Leo’s, but my goal is to score goals. I think I’m a physically strong player, and I’m very confident in my aerial combat. As Coach Yokouchi mentioned earlier, everyone is attacking and everyone is defending, so I think I can utilize my physicality to press firmly from the front. I would like to fully demonstrate the characteristics I just mentioned and contribute to the team.

Takahata Kuita:
I think our strengths are the quality of our set pieces, such as participating in attacks from the back and crossing with our left foot.

Rei Hirakawa:
I’m confident in my technique with my feet, so I want to play in a way that can lead to goals.

Yuya Tsuboi:
I think one-on-one shot-stopping and build-up are our weapons.

Kazuki Kawasaki:
I am confident in my hard work and ability to attack and defend.

Bruno Jose:
My biggest weapon is speed. He is good at scoring goals and providing assists on the team’s offensive side. In addition to that, he is a hard-working player, so I think he can help the team not only offensively but defensively.

Weberton:
My strong point is scoring goals. His strengths are especially in aerial combat and moving into space. In addition to that, I am a physical player and can run, so I can help the team on the defensive side, and I want to utilize all of those characteristics to help the team.

Shunsuke Nishikubo:
As for my weapons, I think I can contribute to the attack and defense in areas such as aerial combat and forward momentum.

Hiroto Uemura:
I think our weapons are our footwork when we have the ball, and the propulsion that allows us to carry the ball from a midfield position.

Mitsuki Sugimoto:
I’m confident in my ability to stop shots from close range, and I want to be able to save the team and contribute to our goals by stopping shots, which is the goalkeeper’s primary job.

Park Seki:
Aerial combat and ball distribution are his weapons.

–You said that your ideal is to be the manager of a team that you can grow with, and as you said, I think it’s important to integrate the growth part with the players who have competed in the past, in terms of reinforcing players that will lead to the future. , Where do you want to start?

Director Yokouchi:
I’m looking forward to a chemical reaction in many ways with the addition of new members next to me this time and their fusion with the players who fought so well last year. As I said earlier, our goal of playing soccer remains the same, but with the change of players, I hope that various chemical reactions will occur and that this will be of benefit to the team.

――This time, we have added 15 people, but what was the most important point?

Fujita Sports Director:
First of all, we have scaled up the team even more than last year’s team and strengthened our team by focusing on players who can compete for one season and produce results in the tough competition in J1. Of course, I don’t think it’s possible to make all the perfect reinforcements, but I’d like to select players who are as close to the type of football that Coach Yokouchi is aiming for, and make full use of the strong points that the players mentioned earlier. If you receive it, I’m sure you’ll be able to make some good football. I wanted to strengthen the team from the perspective of creating a team that will be fun to watch and enjoy seeing each individual’s strengths.

–I have a question for Ishida. This is Jubilo’s first year in J1, but I think they will aim for ACL in the future. I think this was the goal for the Korean team as well, but what do you think about the value of ACL?

Masatoshi Ishida:
I have never participated in ACL, but it is true that ACL is considered important in Korea, and Korean teams may have stronger feelings towards ACL. When I think about Jubilo’s history, I think it’s a club that has made a name for itself not only in Japan but also in Asia, and I think it’s the team it should be. By the way, I think the 40 points that Mr. Yokouchi mentioned is probably the limit for remaining, and this year we may be positioned as building a foundation, but eventually we want to become a club that can aim for the ACL. , I also want to be of help in that regard.

–I have a question for Hirakawa. Last year, when we played against Kumamoto, Coach Yokouchi said that Hirakawa was a very dangerous player. Please tell us how he would like to contribute to Jubilo, a team with an aggressive style, and what his intentions were in choosing the number 37 on his jersey.

Rei Hirakawa:
Jubilo’s soccer is different from Kumamoto’s, but I think there are some similarities, so I would like to show what I grew up with while playing in Kumamoto here as well. I think the style of soccer suits me. Number 37 is the number I used when I came to Kumamoto, and it also has the meaning of reminding me not to forget my thoughts at that time.

— Kotaro Omori’s contract has not been announced yet, please tell us about that.

Fujita Sports Director:
We’re currently in negotiations and I think we’ll be able to make an announcement about the future soon, but we’re currently in negotiations.

–There are some key players from last season, such as Dudu and Yuto Suzuki, who are missing, but what kind of competition do you want to encourage?

Director Yokouchi:
First of all, we are starting this season without those two players who really formed the core of the team last year, but of course there are players who played in those positions as well as players who played last year, but I think we are really starting from scratch once again. Masu. Of course, each of the existing players and new players will show their strengths on the pitch, and I think the members will solidify as we carefully assess how they will fit into the team. Masu. I think that working in such competition will improve the team’s strength, so I have high hopes for that.

――Kawashima played in Europe for 13 years and chose Jubilo to return to Japan. How do you feel about playing in Japan once again?

Eiji Kawashima:
Having played in Europe for 13 years, I felt more like playing in Iwata than playing in Japan this time, and I didn’t feel like I was coming back to Japan, but that I was going to try again in Japan. My feelings are stronger. Of course, I believe that the career I have built is unlike any other player, but playing soccer never ends, and I have to learn on my own, so I am looking forward to taking on this new challenge. I can only look forward to it. I’m really excited to be able to share this challenge with this club.

–Please tell us your impression of Iwata and what kind of club you would like to become by joining.

Eiji Kawashima:
Everyone has often said this, but the biggest thing is that Jubilo was a great club and an attractive club, and among them, manager Yokouchi, sports director Toshiya Fujita, and goalkeeper coach Yoshikatsu Kawaguchi. . I think it was great for me to be able to work with people who share what I’ve done so far, and I think this club can continue to grow because of that perspective, so I also talked about the ACL. First of all, I think we have to keep our feet on the ground in this year’s battles. There is no doubt that the club will continue to compete in the future, and I hope that I can contribute my experience to the club.

–I believe Coach Yokouchi has worked with Kawashima, including during his time on the national team, but what do you want Kawashima to bring?

Director Yokouchi:
(Kawashima) I think Eiji’s level of experience is rare among Japanese soccer players. Moreover, as a goalkeeper, I really understand how difficult it is to continue playing in Europe for 13 years, as I felt it when I was working for the JFA at the time. In that sense, I would like all of that to be returned to this club, Jubilo Iwata. Of course, there’s the playing side, there’s the mental side, and I want them to give back to their attitude towards playing soccer and all those things. As expected, the number of young players has increased, so I hope they can steal as much of that as possible and make it their own.
