In 1204, the Aizkraukle mound is mentioned for the first time in the Indrikis chronicle, when an event near the Aizkraukle mound is recounted. “There were ramparts at the ends of the castle hill and the fore-castle, on them there were fortifications on the side of the hill and on the slopes,” says the chronicle.
