(ANSA) – ROME, APRIL 03 – The Jubilee construction site for the redevelopment of the square in front of the Basilica of San Giovanni in Laterano began today. The works carried out by the Csimu Department of Rome Capital have a total amount of 15 million euros for the complete redevelopment of the area. The Capitol makes this known. The work that has just started concerns the first construction phase in which the work areas are cordoned off. The works on the square concern an area of approximately 10 thousand square meters and involve the resurfacing of the pavement with particular attention to the maintenance of public greenery and environmental sustainability. The arrangement of the square includes flowerbeds equipped with an automatic watering system and level fountains to counteract heat islands. All the works carried out on the square, starting from the construction site, have no repercussions on city traffic, as they take place in a pedestrian area. “From today the construction site of San Giovanni in Laterano begins to take shape – comments the councilor for public works Ornella Segnalini – The Csimu department which coordinates the works has in fact begun the first phase which concerns the construction works. At the end of this first step work will begin and will be completed for the Holy Year. Another large Jubilee construction site has started – concludes Segnalini – to redesign an urban space and make the most of its function as a place of faith and meeting”. (HANDLE).
