Thomas Müller (34) played his one hundred and fiftieth match in the Champions League against Real Madrid on Tuesday evening. Nevertheless, the result left no room for celebration for the German.
Only two players in the history of the Champions League managed to make one hundred and fifty appearances for one club: Iker Casillas and Xavi Hernández. “You have to eat and sleep well to achieve this,” Müller said after the match on the CBS Sports Golazo TV program. “At my age you normally need a wheelchair,” the Bayern Munich player then joked.
Müller saw his teammates score the 2-2 shortly after he had been substituted (80th minute). It came from the shoe of Vinícius Júnior, who had also scored the opening goal. “I felt good today,” Müller continued. ‘In the end I am not satisfied with this draw. But this is how Real Madrid often does it. You know it and you’ve seen it, twice against Manchester City. You have to be careful every minute. Toni Kroos is laughing, but he knows it’s always the same song.’
The two teams will meet again on May 8, but this time in Madrid.
