Jubilee edition of the New York marathon continues with a limited field of participants

Last year, the corona virus threw a spanner in the works of the 50th marathon in New York, but this year the anniversary edition will continue. This has been confirmed by New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo. There is, however, a smaller field of participants than usual.

More than 50,000 runners took part in the last New York marathon (in 2019). This year there is only room for 33,000 people. The number of participants may change in the coming months if the developments surrounding the corona virus give cause to do so.

“It will be a historic marathon,” said organizer Ted Metellus. “An edition that symbolizes the strength, enthusiasm and determination of this beautiful city.”

Number of tickets already issued

Registration for the marathon will open on June 8, but about half of the number of starting tickets has already been allocated. 16,000 tickets are reserved for athletes who registered last year and decided to keep their registration.

This year’s New York Marathon will be held on Sunday, November 7.
