Adele’s concert marathon in Munich ends with the tenth concert. While restaurateurs are cheering about the concert series, environmentalists are warning about the climate policy consequences.
Munich – The last performance on Saturday (31 August) marks the end of the ten-part concert series by British singer Adele in her arena in Riem in Munich. The singer stayed in the state capital for a month – and she was not the only superstar to perform in Munich in August. The Adele marathon has caused both excitement and concern – while fans and the local economy cheered, environmentalists expressed concern about a “climate policy fiasco”.

And the city benefited from this: these visitors not only had to be accommodated and fed, they also spent money on shopping and used taxis or buses. Munich’s economic advisor Clemens Baumgärtner (CSU) had expected that the concert series would bring in around half a billion euros in total for the city.
Adele in Munich: additional local added value of several hundred million euros
Manfred Gößl, Managing Director of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) for Munich and Upper Bavaria, expressed a similar view: “We are expecting additional local added value of several hundred million euros.” He added: “After Adele’s concerts, we can conclude from an economic point of view: restaurants and hotels, retail and souvenir stands, as well as bus and taxi businesses have benefited from the concert-goers, who generally stayed in Munich for more than just one day.”

Criticism came from the EU Climate Pact. “At first glance, the decision to hold the concert series in a central location appears to be more sustainable than a tour in different cities or even countries,” it said in a statement. However, upon closer inspection, the situation looks different.
