Singer Juanes will make his big screen debut with his role in the film ‘Pimpinero: Sangre y Gasolina’, a story set in the desert on the border between Colombia and Venezuela, where gasoline smugglers known as ‘pimpineros’ risk their lives transporting illegal fuel from one country to another.
The film, directed by Colombian filmmaker Andrés Baiz, director of ‘Griselda’ and ‘Narcos’, will star Cuban director Alberto Guerra, Mexican director Alejandro Speitzer and Colombian director Laura Osma, among others, and will be officially screened at the Toronto International Film Festival.
When Juan, the youngest of a clan of three brothers involved in this dangerous trade, is forced to work for a sinister rival, the dark side of the business is exposed with tragic consequences. Determined to uncover the horrible secrets that surround this no-man’s land, Juan’s girlfriend Diana sets out on a journey in search of the truth.
“Pimpinero is about geographical and physical borders, but above all about ethical, moral and emotional borders,” explained Baiz, quoted in a statement from Prime Video, where the film will be available to watch.
“The result is an exciting film, full of beauty, truth and a lot of adrenaline,” said the director.
Juanes, for his part, posted a photo on his Instagram account announcing his participation in the film with a first frame.
