Juan Mata’s name appears on the Perez Controversy sound recording

Jakarta

Manchester United midfielder, Juan Mata |, is the latest player to be dragged into the controversy over the leaking of audio clips surrounding the president Real Madrid, Florentino Perez.

Spanish newspaper El Confidencial has released a series of voice recordings of Perez attacking a number of former Los Blanco players, including Iker Casillas and Raul. Both are called swindlers.

The 74-year-old has vowed to take legal action and claims his comments were taken out of context, though that hasn’t stopped the Spanish publication from continuing to release more audio recordings.

The controversy in Perez’s latest recording involves Mata, who started his career from Madrid’s academy and played 39 times for the Castilla side. The team was then relegated and the eye was subsequently sold to Valencia in 2007.

Mata has enjoyed a brilliant career – winning the Champions League, Europa League, FA Cup, European Cup and World Cup – and Perez did not forgive then Real Madrid B manager Michel for in his view forced Mata out of the club.

The latest El Confidencial audio recording, dating from 2009, shows Perez blaming Michel for the Castilla team’s downfall. Perez accused the coach of forcing Mata out of Madrid to play Adrian as Michel’s son – who ended up having a poor career.

“I think Michel was the one who punched the hole for Mata (left). Michel was the one who kicked him out of Real Madrid Castilla to put his son in the team,” Perez said in the recording.

Michel is one of the most famous players in Madrid’s history, making 559 appearances for the club between 1981 and 1996 – placing him 10th in the all-time table with Karim Benzema.
