Former Spanish international Juan Mata (35) will leave European football for the first time and move to Asia, where he will follow in the footsteps of his compatriots Andres Iniesta and David Villa.
The experienced midfielder reached an agreement with the Japanese club Vissel Kobe, to which he transferred as a free agent after ending his cooperation with Galatasaray.
Juan Mata thus followed his compatriot Andres Iniesta, who played five whole seasons in Kobe, or David Villa, who wore the jersey of the Japanese club in the 2019/20 season.
Juan Mata spent most of his career in Spain and England, where he played for Valencia, Chelsea and Manchester United.
He won the Champions League with Chelsea in 2012, the Europa League a year later and then won the trophy with United in the second strongest European competition.
Juan Mata went through the football academy of Real Madrid, but he never started for the first team of the “royal club”. With the Spanish national team, he won the World Cup in 2010 and EURO 2012.
