Juan Manuel Domínguez Sierra ‘El Bola’, a historic member of the La Botika theatre group, actor and cabaret artist, icon of the best times of the Cáceres ‘movida’, cultural agitator and LGTBI activist, died this Friday at the age of 63.
The news of the death of Bola, one of the most recognizable public figures in Cáceres, was given by La Botika on its social networks, with the following message: “Our brother Bola has just passed away. You have given us so much that you will always be with us. Labotika is you! Death is not feared, if life has been lived wisely (Siddhartha Gautama ‘Buddha’). This last quote is a reference to the Buddhist religion that the actor professed.
«We are dealing with a very Spanish character, a restless rogue who has made a living with more trades and enthusiasm than Lazarillo de Tormes. Juan Manuel Domínguez Sierra, alias ‘el Bola’, has been and is an actor, cook, cabaret artist, vegetarian, follower of the Dalai Lama, punk postman in Villanueva de la Vera, DJ in a pub in La Madrila, candidate for civil service, candidate for mayor of Cáceres and an orderly in a library». This is how José Ramón Alonso de la Torre described Bola in an article published in HOY in 2021, when the Cáceres City Council dedicated a street to him as a tribute to his career.
The funeral in memory of Juan Manuel Domínguez Sierra ‘El Bola’ will be this Saturday at 6:30 p.m. in the chapel of the San Pedro de Alcántara funeral home.
