Reportedly, Juan Luca Sacchi will serve a one-match suspension after refusing to shake hands with his female assistant referee Francesca Di Monte, writes Football Italia.
It all happened in the match between Lecce and Sassuolo during the weekend’s Serie A round. The incident was captured by cameras inside the tunnel before kick-off. It shows Sacchi shaking hands with the two team captains in Lecce and Sassuolo but not with his assistant referee Francesca Di Monte.
Juan Luca Sacchi is said to have been scolded privately by the head of the Italian referees’ association, Gianluca Rocchi, after the match. Now Sacchi is also suspended for one match.
38-year-old Sacchi has refereed matches in Serie A since 2021. He has so far played 20 matches in the Italian top flight. Both Serie A and Serie B have several female referees.
