The Spanish prime-time crown has belonged to a program for several years. El Hormiguero, a format hosted by Pablo Motos and now in its 18th season, saw the light of day on television for the first time back in 2006. It was on Cuatro. Five years later it would be broadcast on Antena 3. And there it remains.
The faces behind those first broadcasts were Pablo Motos and Jorge Salvador, creators of the production company 7yAcción, Jorge Ventosa, production director of the format, and Juan Herrera. The latter, who sometimes falls into oblivion and continues as a scriptwriter of the format to this day, has surprised by announcing at the Cadena SER microphones that he has been suffering from cancer for five years.
It has been on Transmite la SER. “I was incredibly lucky that a comedian, of course, gave me the gift of participating in an experiment and thanks to immunotherapy I have been fighting for five years and playing tricks, because initially they gave me six months to live,” he confessed. , causing the surprise of the listeners.
Humor as medicine for the soul
“Humor is a way to save suffering,” Herrera summarized, who, making use of the touch of grace that he never loses, delved into the phrase he had just recited: “And this is not mine, it is Freud’s, but I “I love that economic vision that humor is a way to avoid sorrow.” Currently, Herrera is in what is known as the “maintenance” phase, a stage that he himself is responsible for explaining: “he means that the disease is not overcome, but it is controlled; In the early days, without the humor, it would have been downright unbearable.”
He assures, between jokes, that it was that humorous vein that lent him a hand when everything was going wrong and taught him the path he should follow to face the disease: “I was lucky that I could see myself from the outside. It was precisely that part of himself that led him to promote Humor Amarillo, where he discovered “the enormous power of shit,” and that led him to devise El Hormiguero, a format in which he wanted to “do something always in motion, generate items where “There could be risk, generating elements that would make people have to be attentive.”
