Juan angry at Chamilla in Help, Mijn Man Is Klusser: ‘What are you doing to me?’

Two years ago, Chamilla and Juan bought an old farm in Kedichem, in the province of Utrecht. Two years later, the job turns out to be too big for the couple and they live in a ruin. For Chamilla it is time to enlist the help of John Williams (53) and the team of ‘Help, Mijn Man Is Klusser!’ to enable. John can hardly believe what he finds.

“That’s not going to happen. Fuck off”

Chamilla and Juan bought the house to live in with their blended family. “The idea was great. We would have help, both financially and people who wanted to work with us. But it all turned out differently,” she says. “I never thought I’d do this, or ask. But I just don’t remember. Everywhere I look, there’s junk. I’m through it. Can you please come and help us?”

John has not yet taken a step into the house or he is already shocked by what he finds. “Well… it starts here, doesn’t it”, he says. Due to agreements and promises that have not been fulfilled, Chamilla and Juan are still in a building pit. “We’ve had so much bad luck, on several fronts, that it eventually made me overwrought.”

She is told by her psychologist that she is depressed. “One minute I’m roaring, the next I’m angry.” Juan in particular has to deal with Chamilla’s whims. As far as jobs are concerned, it doesn’t want to work either. “He wants everything, but he can’t do it right now in terms of time.” Due to rheumatic complaints, Chamilla gets tired quickly, so she doesn’t have the energy to help.

When John sees where Chamilla’s daughter is sleeping, he is even more shocked. “It’s just awful,” admits Chamilla. “That your teenage daughter should sleep here.” Then it is also dirty downstairs. There are cobwebs and dust everywhere. “I can see that it’s dirty, but I just can’t get it done.”

Juan is not happy with John’s arrival. He goes on a rampage. “Fuck off, fuck off dude. That’s not going to happen. Fuck off,” he says angrily. He indicates that he does not want to be helped ‘in this way’. Then he lashes out at Chamilla: “What are you doing to me? God damn it!”

When she indicates that she will do it together for them, Juan does not notice. “I don’t feel like this. Fuck off, dude! I don’t feel like this. I’ll do it alone.” The situation catches Juan off guard. “It’s like I can’t do it myself now,” he says, fighting back tears. After a good conversation, he decides to accept the help after all.

Juan puts his shoulders to the wheel and goes to work together with the handymen. Later he speaks to John, who then says that he thinks it’s ‘not okay’ how violently Juan reacts to Chamilla. “You’re in a vicious circle that you can’t get out of and of course I’m angry with myself. Why haven’t I had things recorded or seen in advance?” he says.

Then Chamilla joins the conversation, who has ‘distanced’ from the house for a few days. Juan indicates that he wants to sell the house, but she does not accept that. “If you say A, you must also say B.” Finally Juan and Chamilla sit next to each other with tears in their eyes. Losing each other is not an option. “It’s not worth it,” she says.

Then the moment has arrived: Chamilla can see the end result. “It’s fun,” is her first reaction. “It’s like a living room,” she says with an awkward smile, before flying into Juan’s arms.

Two weeks later, John returns to take a closer look. Chamilla is doing much better then, because she has more rest. Although the house is not yet finished, it seems that Juan and Chamilla are on the right track.
