The JS Cherbourg (Sleeve) moves to Villeurbannece Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at 8:30 p.m.on behalf of the 25e day of Proligue. If this meeting has a little salty taste, it is because the JSC will meet, precisely, its former coach. Frédéric Bougeant led the Mancho team twice to the Proligue Final Four, and his negotiated departure last June, when he had two years left on his contract, made waves.
In search of a new project, the Norman threw himself on that of Villeurbanne in November, and brought in his deputy Jose Luis Villanueva, who was on sick leave in… Cherbourg. All these little people will therefore meet this Tuesday evening and we do not know the content of the handshake between all these technicians.
Differences
In the little game of differences, there is no need to stir your brains to compare Frédéric Bougeant and his successor Edu Fernandez at the head of the JS Cherbourg (Some).
On the form first. If the first, on the strength of his good results and of a volcanic character, allowed himself to publicly question the sporting policy of the club, the players and the media, the second remains more composed, never pushing a cry higher than the other, protecting the institution, its group and the environment.
Edu Fernandez has “brought back serenity”
The leaders have always recognized the “technical and tactical” work done by Frédéric Bougeant (two qualifications for the Final Four), but they could no longer support the “heavy” atmosphere around the pennant team.
Where the professionalism and “great rigor” of Haut-Norman could pose a problem for some employees and even volunteers, the calm of Edu Fernandez – who only interferes with the sporting aspect – slices. “He brought serenity back to the club”, sums up an assiduous observer in the spans of Jean-Jaurès.
He works hand in hand with the management team and recruits with the financial envelope given to him.
Of course, in the privacy of the locker room, it is not uncommon for the ex-pivot, winner of the Club World Cup with theAtletico Madrid (2012), raises the tone. “He hates defeat so sometimes he can be very demanding,” observes a player who worked under his command. But this remains within a well-defined framework.
Retention and relegation
While only one point is missing to ensure maintenance in Proligue, JS Cherbourg can definitively and mathematically validate this objective by winning in Villeurbanne. A draw would also suffice.
Conversely, Villeurbanne is the first relegated. By losing against the JSC, the Rhôdaniens would grill a new joker.
Keeping in sight
Arrived in Cherbourg at the last minute last summer, the former Nice has never complained about a workforce that he has not shaped. He adapted, made alterations this winter and promises that we will see his “paw” next season.
Meanwhile, his predecessor embarked on a project in Villeurbanne with the ambition of moving up to the Starligue in five years. This may go through box N1.
0 losses
Last season, Frédéric Bougeant’s JS Cherbourg failed to beat Edu Fernandez’s Cavigal Nice (29-26, 30-30).
“Reviewing people with whom we had good times, it will be a little more challenge”, observed Friday April 7 Gauthier Ivah. “If we can send them to N1, we won’t hesitate, it’s high-level handball…”, launched, for his part, Léo Weber, without nostalgia.
