JP President received “threats” for contesting Festa do Avante!

The president of Popular Youth guarantees that he has been the target of insults and threats since he launched a petition against the holding of the Festa do Avante! because of the pandemic. “As much as the extreme left threatens us, we will not bow to the installed power and the dictatorship of opinion in which we currently live in Portugal. No matter how much they try to condition our freedom, no matter how many threats they make, we will always be a buffer to extremism, left and right ”, said the President of Popular Youth in statements to Lusa.

Francisco Mota says he received “threats of all kinds” and “cheap insults” after launching this initiative to stop the PCP party. The leader of the young centrists revealed that the petition already has almost 5,000 signatures.

The document addressed to the Prime Minister emphasizes that “it will be of an unprecedented gravity, if under cover of a political manifestation it is allowed to do what is not allowed to thousands and thousands of Portuguese and hundreds of businessmen and artists. The Government will lose all moral and political authority, if it allows some that it does not authorize others ”.

party with restrictions The restrictions that will be applied to the communist party, on September 4, 5 and 6, in Seixal, are being evaluated with the health authorities, but the PCP has already come to guarantee that “the number of simultaneous attendance at the party will be one third of the licensed capacity ”. In other words, the venue cannot have more than 33 thousand people at the same time.

With this measure, the communist party guarantees that the conditions are met to fulfill social distance. “Each one can enjoy an area larger than the one established for the frequency of beaches”.

The PCP’s decision to hold the Avante Party! has been the target of much criticism, mainly from the PSD and CDS. Communists have already condemned what they classify as a “campaign against the Festa do Avante! intending to stigmatize it, seeking to impose exceptional limitations that do not exist in the multiple expressions of social and cultural life, and to question the political rights that the Portuguese people achieved with the 25th of April ”.

The Government has guaranteed that there will be no exceptions to the communist party. Minister Mariana Vieira da Silva said last week that the organization of the party “is the exclusive responsibility” of the PCP and “there will be no exception to the current rules for this initiative”. Mariana Vieira da Silva stressed that “the Constitution and the law do not allow the prohibition of any initiative and any political activity. No political achievement or activity depends on government authorization ”.
