JPMorgan Chairman Jamie Dimon criticized cryptocurrencies, stressing that he would have issued a decision to ban them if he had the authority to do so, considering that the only use of these currencies is drug trafficking, money laundering, and tax evasion.
In a hearing before the US Senate, Damon said: I have always been against cryptocurrencies and Bitcoin. The only real use for those assets is drug trafficking, money laundering, and tax evasion. He added: If I were in the government’s place, I would close these currency exchanges.
Dimon’s statements are the latest in a series of criticism directed at cryptocurrencies, despite the bank’s involvement in blockchain-related activities.
In his previous statements, Damon described Bitcoin as a scam, a statement he later retracted.
Noting that the digital currency Bitcoin is catching its breath today after the recent rise, as the price fell by approximately 0.6 percent. However, the coin continues to trade near the $44,000 level.
