ODS MEPs Club: Jozef Síkela attended a barbecue in the European Parliament today
(www.ods.cz) This afternoon, Czech candidate for Commissioner for International Cooperation Jozef Síkela attended a hearing before the Committee for Development and representatives of other invited committees whose agenda is related to the portfolio of the Czech nominee for the Commission.
“In my opinion, Jozef Síkela passed the barbecuing. His experience from working in the government of the Czech Republic and from his previous work in the private sector showed, as well as the fact that he is well-versed in the field of international cooperation that should be entrusted to him. It has been confirmed that his nomination was the right decision,” said Veronika Vrecionová, chairwoman of the ODS deputies’ club in the European Parliament.
“The debate during the hearing of Jozef Síkela confirmed the assumption that the portfolio assigned to him has several layers, including the economic one, and it is far from just development aid. A positive thing for me was the fact that Jozef Síkela repeatedly emphasized the need to involve private sources in the financing of development projects and other investments related to his department. It is also important for me that there is space for private companies and their greater involvement, which Jozef Síkela is in favor of,” said ODS MEP Ondřej Krutílek about the hearing.
“The portfolio of international cooperation must also serve as a tool with which we will face illegal migration to Europe. Jozef Síkela commented on this topic repeatedly during the barbecue. He rightly emphasized that the EU must connect international cooperation with the return policy and, through it, motivate countries of origin and transit countries to protect their borders and to cooperate in returning unsuccessful asylum seekers,” said Alexandr Vondra, deputy chairman of the Parliamentary Club of European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR) .
