Journalists from La Provence vote to return to work

The writing of Provence decided, this Monday, November 20, to put an end to the strike movement that it had initiated on Thursday, November 16. With a participation rate of 91% (188 voters), 96 journalists voted for the return to work, while 89 were in favor of extending the strike. A close vote, in “an editorial team more divided than ever”, describes an internal source. The newspaper will therefore be printed again tomorrow Tuesday.

While the sole shareholder of the newspaper, the CMA CGM, demanded the elimination of 30 editorial positions and 31 jobs in other departments of the newspaper, the management of the title received the inter-union (SNJ, CFDT, CFE -CGC) during the weekend and recognized that the plan had been presented in a manner “too brutal”. However, the objective of these 30 editorial departures remains “unavoidable” according to Gabriel d’Harcourt, the group’s general director, cited by the inter-union, but these departures will be spread out between now and the end of 2024. Management also returns to its desire to close the Vaucluse agencies of Carpentras and of Orange. For their part, the unions are taking action “a finding of disagreement on the objective of the job cuts” and are demanding an index increase in the lowest editorial salaries.
