“Journalist Evan Gershkovich Wrongly Detained in Russia on Espionage Charges, Says Biden Administration”

“Journalism is not a crime. Evan must be released immediately, like all other Americans who are taken hostage or unjustly detained abroad,” he said.

Biden added that Gershkovich traveled to Russia to report “to shed light on the darkness.”

“We are working every day to achieve his release, looking for opportunities and tools to bring him back home,” he said.

It should be reminded that at the end of March Gershkovich was detained in Yekaterinburg and charged with alleged “espionage”. The US State Department declared Gershkovich “wrongly detained” by Russia.

Bloomberg reported that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin personally approved Gershkovich’s arrest.
