After Carroll told her version of the story on Wednesday to questions from her lawyer, Mike Ferrara, today it was the turn of Trump’s team, which tries to prove that everything is a lie and that the writer acts motivated by self-interest, the fame and money.
At the beginning of the interrogation, according to the Ley y Crimen outlet, Tacopina asked her about the “supposed” rape, to which Carroll replied: “It’s not ‘supposed’, I was raped.”
“That is his version,” replied the magnate’s lawyer.
“These are the facts,” Carroll insisted.
The trial began last Tuesday with the selection of the jury and the opening arguments of both parties.
Carroll claims that Trump raped her in the changing rooms of the Bergdorf Goodman shopping center, located on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan.
Likewise, she sued him for defamation, because when in 2019 he publicly declared that the then president had raped her, he disqualified her, saying that she was not his “type”, that all this was “a joke and a lie” and that what she I was looking for was free fame to promote a book.
“I’m here because Donald Trump raped me. And when I wrote that, he said it didn’t happen. He lied and destroyed my reputation. I’m here to try to get my life back,” Carroll said yesterday in Federal Court for the Southern District of New York , in Manhattan, according to local media.
During his testimony, Carroll acknowledged that his memory was confused in some details (for example, in the specific year in which the events occurred), but that he did remember that everything had started in a friendly way outside the store.
According to her version, Trump was looking for a gift for a woman and the writer joined the businessman in the search for that gift, thinking that it could help him in his work as an advice columnist.
She also assured that she did not report what happened because of the fear and shame she felt, although she did tell two friends who will testify during the trial.
