During the controls in Sachsenhausen, three locations were closed until further notice by the regulatory office. In addition to spoiled food, mice and parasites and their legacies have also been discovered. Structural defects have also been identified.
In one case it was a restaurant that looked well maintained at first glance. However, it would take food inspectors about 90 minutes to register all the deficiencies. The city announced that some foods were nearly unidentifiable in their texture. In addition to the spoiled food, the regulatory office also found mouse and rat droppings and the smell of mouse urine. According to the city, the restaurant cannot reopen until all deficiencies have been corrected and microbiological testing at core food processing points has been verified.
The next restaurant is in close proximity to the first restaurant, which is now closed. Here, too, serious hygienic deficiencies were found in the kitchen and in the warehouse. Also, this restaurant is also infested with rats and cockroaches. According to the city, there are structural defects here as well. Additionally, the restaurant has been found to be insolvent and has already been delisted under business law by a bankruptcy counsel, the city continues.
The third closed restaurant is a shisha bar. Serious hygiene deficiencies were found in the counter area and hookah preparation room. The regulatory office was also able to find structural defects and a rat infestation. The traffic police also seized a slot machine with an expired permit and a vending machine without a display tag. In addition, 500 foreign-made painkillers were found behind the counter, the city said.
Only in one of the four restaurants checked did the hygienic conditions not lead to closure. Although hygiene deficiencies were found here as well, the farm was pest-free. According to the city, inspectors ordered the operator to remedy the defects immediately and announced that there would be a follow-up inspection soon.
