Around 2800 athletes will take part in the Ironman on Sunday. Because the triathlon runs through the entire city area and neighboring regions, there will be extensive traffic restrictions for drivers and local public transport.
The triathlon traditionally begins with the discipline of swimming in the Langener Waldsee. The subsequent cycling discipline leads in two rounds through the districts of Offenbach, Main-Kinzig, Wetterau, Groß-Gerau and the Hochtaunuskreis. The final run starts in the area of the Mainkai and leads in four laps above and below the Main to the finish on the Römerberg.
Roads in Frankfurt and the surrounding area closed
The police expect the first participants to arrive at the finish line around 2:20 p.m., the last triathletes are expected around 10 p.m. From 3 a.m. on Sunday there should be extensive road closures in Frankfurt and in the districts of Offenbach, Main-Kinzig, Wetterau, Groß-Gerau and the Hochtaunuskreis. The traffic restrictions are expected to extend into the late evening hours. In addition, according to the police, there will be traffic disruptions now and until Monday, June 27, due to construction and dismantling work. There will also be closures on Mainkai and Untermainkai streets.
Trams only run to a limited extent
While the S-Bahn and U-Bahn are scheduled to be on the move on Sunday and the S4 in the direction of Langen and Kronberg will be expanded by four additional connections in the morning hours, trams and buses will only run to a limited extent. That’s how the Tram line 11 between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. only drive between Zuckschwerdtstrasse and Heilbronner Strasse. From 5 p.m. until the end of operations, it will be diverted between the main station and Allerheiligentor via Sachsenhausen. the line 12 will only run from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. between Rheinlandstraße and Willy-Brandt-Platz and in the ring traffic from the ice rink via the zoo to the Konstablerwache and Bornheim Mitte. From 5 p.m. until the end of operations, line 12 will be diverted between Stresemannallee/Gartenstrasse and Konstablerwache via Sachsenhausen.
Die Tram line 14 runs between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. only between Mönchhofstraße and Heilbronner Straße. From 5 p.m. it will also be diverted between the main station and Allerheiligentor via Sachsenhausen. the line 15 will not stop at the Südbahnhof from 6.30 a.m. to 10.30 a.m. and will be diverted from Haardtwaldplatz to the main station. the Tram line 16 will be interrupted from around 6.30 a.m. to 10.30 a.m. between the main train station and the southern train station. From Ginnheim it ends at the main train station, coming from Offenbach it is diverted to Louisa station.
Die line 17 runs between 6.30 a.m. and 10.30 a.m. only between Rebstockbad and Hauptbahnhof and the line 18 runs at the same time between Südbahnhof and Neu-Isenburg, then only between Südbahnhof and Louisa until about 5 p.m.
Changed travel times for the buses
Die Bus route 25 will only run between Harheim Tempelhof and Berkersheim Bahnhof from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. the line 29 runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. only between Nieder-Eschbach and Nordwestzentrum. the Lines 30 and M43 are to run between 7.45 a.m. and 5 p.m. as a common ring line from Bornheim Mitte via Friedberger Warte and Heiligenstock/Lohrberg to Bergen and from there via Seckbach back to Bornheim Mitte.

On the way back, it runs from Triftstraße on the normal route to the airport. the X61 lines ceases operations from 5 a.m. to 10 a.m. the line 65 does not start operating until 5 p.m. the Line X77 operates from 5:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. between Airport Building 543 and Gateway Gardens Mitte only. the line 83 their first journey begins at 5:19 p.m. from Friedberger Warte to the Lohrberg.
Cars should avoid downtown
The police also recommend motorists to drive around the city center as far as possible. The reason for this is that the cycle route leads, among other things, to the Friedberger Landstrasse. A transport connection to the districts to the east and west of Friedberger Landstraße is only possible by detouring via the A661. In addition, the police recommend using public transport.
