Journal Frankfurt Nachrichten – Creating open spaces in the city

A festival from October 29th to 31st on the Bockenheim campus is promoting the implementation phase of the Open House of Cultures. Also present: the cultural initiative on the Main, Virus Musik, Virus Musik Radio and the team from the Horst event room.

When the first “Frankfurt Construction Booklet 01” was presented on September 22nd under the title “From Student House to Open House of Cultures 1951-2021”, the Open House of Cultures Association took this as an opportunity to remember the history of the building as an important symbol to point out for the democratization after the time of the National Socialism and “a refuge for the critical examination of society and the lived utopian practice”.

While the Goethe University has moved from Bockenheim to the Westend campus, the student house is to become a socio-cultural center on the planned culture campus. A multi-day festival between October 29th and 31st marks the start of a large-scale campaign to underline the need for an open house for the city.

The well-known speakers who will speak at the Agora on October 29th include the new head of the Institute for Social Research, Stefan Lessenich, the founder of Kanak Attak, Imran Ayata, and the author Stephan Hebel. There are also projections, installations and concerts, to which the cultural initiative on the Main around musician Conni Maly, Virus Musik Radio and the Horst team will be contributing.

On Friday and Saturday, Lava 303 will perform on the open-air stage, Maly will play music and the final sprint. Their singer and guitarist Jason Fretz makes it clear: “Of course it is very important for us musicians: after the long break, to finally play live again. I am particularly looking forward to the concert in front of the House of Cultures in order to show a clear stance in these turbulent times: For cultural diversity and diversity, a musical statement for tolerance and openness. “
