Joss Ackland, actor of ‘Lethal Weapon 2’ and ‘The Hunt for Red October’, dies

British actor Joss Ackland died at home, apparently of natural causes, on Sunday, November 19.

Ackland, who cut his teeth as an actor at the famous Old Vic theatre, is remembered for his participation in films such as Arma mortal 2, in which he played a US government official specialized in South African issues, who warns the protagonists of the danger of continuing with an investigation into which they fall when they find a chest of illegal gold.

Another of his best-known roles was in The hunt for Red October the film in which a Russian submarine is driven by its captain towards the United States, where the ship’s leader intends to defect. In this production, which stars Sean Connery and Alec Baldwin, Ackland played the role of the Russian ambassador.

His name had credits in more than a hundred productions (between film and television), some with classic stories such as David Copperfield, Sherlock Holmes or The Three Musketeers, in which he played D’artagnan, and stories related to the latter, many years later, in which he played the father of the same swordsman.

In the statement announcing the news of his death, Arkland’s family stated that “with his distinctive voice and commanding presence, Ackland brought a unique intensity and gravitas to his roles,” adding that “he will be remembered as one of the Britain’s most talented and successful actors.
