Joshua Roy hasn’t always been seen as a top prospect, but he’s increasingly proving that he (already) belongs in the NHL at just 21 years old.
It was also his birthday on August 6th.
He was drafted in the 5th round in 2021, being one of the youngest in his class.
If we re-do the draft, we can easily place him in the first round, and possibly in the top-20, he who has dominated since his selection at 150th overall.
He wasn’t drafted late because of his size, as he’s not small (6-foot, 192 pounds).
Laziness has already been mentioned in his case at the junior level, but it has become clear over time that this is not the reason why he came out so late.
If we rely on Marc Dumont of Montreal Hockey Nowit would rather be a lack of advice from his coaches in the junior.
To qualify, the prospect in question must have played fewer than 100 NHL games.
Roy is ranked 4th in his ranking and believes he deserves more credit than he gets.
#GoHabsGo prospect No.4 of our summer rankings!
Joshua Roy was written off early in his career, but hard work and dedication led to his ascension as a top Canadiens prospects.
And now, the stats suggest he’s already among the team’s best players⬇️

When he was traded to Sherbrooke to join the Phoenix, that’s when everything changed for Roy.
When he arrived in Sherbrooke, he was mature enough to discuss his problems with his new coaches.
And that’s where Marc Dumont believes he deserves more credit.
The transition from junior to professional is often very difficult for hopefuls.
Like many young players who completed their junior training, Roy made the jump to the AHL.
On the other hand, it (really) didn’t take long before he made the jump to the NHL.
Mid-season, he was recalled by the big club to play a total of six games, before being sent back down to the American League.
However, he was promoted back to the NHL a few weeks later.
The 21-year-old Quebecer has a good chance of cracking the CH roster for the 2024-25 season, even if the NHL.com site does not place him in the projected roster.
With the injury to Rafael Harvey-Pinard, it opens the door to players like Roy, but also Alex Barré-Boulet, the club’s new acquisition.
The Finn Emil Heineman will also want to confuse the issue.

There will definitely be a fierce battle to complete the roster, but in my opinion, Joshua Roy MUST be in the regulars. He fully deserves it.
