New York Giants fans haven’t had much to celebrate in recent years. With a winning record over the past nine seasons, times have been tough. The Giants have had their fifth head coach since 2015. Stability was an issue. With very little to look forward to, leave it to Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen to offer a glimmer of hope to Giants fans this year.
Is Josh Allen the handiest quarterback in the game today?
Now, if Allen isn’t the most experienced quarterback in the NFL, he certainly is at the top. At the beginning of his career, accuracy and ball feeling were his biggest problems. These have since been remedied. Though his numbers were down slightly from his 2020 Pro Bowl season, when he completed 69.2% of his passes and threw 37 touchdown passes, his 2021 season was still a far cry from his rookie year.
Last year, Allen’s completion percentage dropped to 63.3%, a far cry from his freshman season when he completed 52.8% of his shots. However, in 2021, he still threw for 4,407 yards and 36 touchdowns. He also rushed for a career-high 763 yards and added six more touchdowns on the ground.
There isn’t a quarterback in the league who has the size and skill of Allen. At 6ft 5 and 237 pounds, Allen has the ability to run past or over defenders. His arm strength is among the best quarterbacks in the NFL.
Allen was drafted seventh overall in 2018 and was the third of four quarterbacks to be selected in the top 10. After Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold, and three picks ahead of Josh Rosen, Allen is the only one still playing for the team that drafted him.
