Joseph Staten Leaves Microsoft and Halo Infinite Permanently

When at the beginning of 2023 Microsoft announced the sad news that before closing the third quarter of the fiscal year it would lay off more than 10,000 employees, one of the names that appeared was that of Joseph (Joe) Staten. However, at the time the news was that the director of Halo Infinite would be leaving his position at 343i to return to parent Xbox Game Studios, in a new role to be determined.

Until now Staten had not ruled on this change, but this will not finally take place, but will abandon everything that has to do with Xbox and, consequently, with Microsoft. This has been announced by himself through a message on his official Twitter account, under which the thank you messages of journalists and professional colleagues have not been long in coming:

Hey folks, I am indeed leaving Microsoft. I’ll have more info to share soon, but for now, I’d just like to thank all my @Xbox colleagues for all their understanding and support as I embark on a new adventure.

Joseph Staten leaves Microsoft permanently

Before Staten announced his decision, the American medium IGN had already echoed it. After the exclusive, the creative himself confirmed it personally, revealing that he has a new project:

Hello friends, I am indeed leaving Microsoft. I’ll have more information to share with you soon, but for now, I’d just like to thank all of my Xbox colleagues for their understanding and support as I embark on a new adventure.

Joseph Staten’s career took off as a writer at Bungie, participating in the Halo main trilogy until Microsoft signed him as creative director. After several years assuming command of the company’s gaming division, he returned to the arms of the Master Chief to direct Halo Infinite.
