Joseph-Beuys Comprehensive School – Düsseldorf Art Commission


Reason:

The Joseph-Beuys-Gesamtschule in the Wersten district of Düsseldorf is getting several new buildings at the old location due to the increasing need for space. The existing 4-train system will also be expanded by 2 classes per year level.

As part of the overall construction project, the existing building will be renovated and expanded by 3 new school buildings along a connecting thoroughfare, including a double sports hall. A new canteen will be built in the rear part of the school grounds and all outdoor facilities will be redesigned.

The aim of the competition is to contextualize the self-image of the school and its identification with independent artistic designs and to sharpen the profile of the school.

Ausloberin:

The client and organizer is the state capital Düsseldorf, represented by the Commission for Art in Architecture and in Public Space of the state capital Düsseldorf in cooperation with the Office for Schools and Education.

Competition type:

The competition is announced as an invited, single-phase competition. The process is anonymous until the end.
