The Josep Trueta Hospital in Girona has implemented two “very advanced” techniques in the Endoscopy Unit that make it possible to reduce intervention time and improve diagnoses, as well as avoiding trips to other health centers.
Specifically, it has acquired a motorized enteroscope for carrying out studies of the thin gut, which up to now had to be carried out in centers in Barcelona, and it has begun to carry out echobronchoscopy-guided cryobiopsies.
In motorized enteroscopy, tube insertion is “smoother and deeper, has more stability, and more precise positioning, allowing for precision therapeutic techniques and shortening the duration of the test.”
Ultrasound-guided cryobiopsies are a technique through which “much more reliable” samples are obtained with which healthcare providers will carry out the pathological studies that will determine the patient’s diagnosis.
In both cases, the Trueta is the first center in the Girona Health Region to have these techniques and it is estimated that each year between 15 and 20 procedures will be performed with each of the techniques in the hospital.
