Josep Lluís Trapero, former director of the Mossos d’Esquadra between 2013 and 2017, will once again lead the institution. Núria Parlón, Minister of the Interior of Salvador Illa’s Government, has made official an appointment that the president of the Generalitat himself announced in May.
“If I am president, the director general of the Mossos will be Josep Lluís Trapero,” Illa said. Now, with the Government already up and running, Trapero returns to the institution after a career marked by the 2017 attacks and the 1 October referendum.
“Everyone knows Major Trapero, he was chief commissioner from 2013 to 2017. He has a professional career and in-depth knowledge of the force and will lead the main lines of the department. The objective is to reverse the crime curve, in coordination with the different security forces,” says Parlón.
The minister talks about starting “a new era” in the Mossos, also announcing the dismissals of Eduard Sallent and Rosa Bosch. Sallent is replaced by Miquel Esquius, who was already in charge of the Catalan police between July 2018 and June 2019, after the 155 era.
Parlon has also announced that Commissioner Alicia Moriana will replace Bosch as the second in command of the Mossos at the head of the autonomous police force. These appointments come after the crisis generated after the flight of the former Catalan president Carles Puigdemont in his fleeting reappearance in Barcelona on August 8.
