The High Representative for Foreign Policy of the European Union, Josep Borrell, has arrived in China for a three-day visit, postponed several times during the year, during which he will meet, among others, Foreign Minister Wang Yi , to address conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine, Beijing’s tensions with Taiwan as well as obviously bilateral relations and the issue of trade. The visit comes at the height of the war between Israel and Hamas, with Beijing having so far called for a ceasefire and condemning violence against civilians on both sides. Just today Borrell will meet his counterpart, Wang Yi, for the twelfth strategic dialogue between China and the European Union, and then the head of European diplomacy will speak at Beijing University. “During the visit the High Representative will have further meetings with a wide range of interlocutors”, the EU says, and the visit “is the latest in a series of important high-level dialogues between the EU and China, which should culminate in the EU-China summit later this year.” The visit, added Borrell from his X account, will be “important to discuss EU-China relations and key regional and global challenges with government authorities, scholars and business representatives”.
