José Sacristán: “I belong to a generation that survived thanks to cinema”

The actor José Sacristán visited the Filmoteca de Zaragoza this afternoon on the occasion of the cycle ‘White paper‘ which he planned within the activities prior to the Feroz Awards gala, and thus recognized his membership “to a generation that survived thanks to cinema“.

José Sacristán, who obtained the first Feroz de Honor Award, thanked “The hospitality of Zaragoza” to welcome this cycle and give him the opportunity to choose five films that have marked him, “from early childhood to today” to be screened at the Filmoteca. “One’s life is sown and marked by the films he has seen during his life”, he acknowledged.

In this sense, the actor stressed that “what happened on the streets and in houses when I was young was not funny at all and the world of illusion that lay in the theaters fed a whole generation.”

Also, Sacristán, who ensured it “survives thanks to the moving image”, He confessed that when he had to make this selection he made use of “those that struck me the most at the time, regardless of what anyone thinks of the goodness or badness of the film”.

“I recognize what happened to me when I saw each of them. With the first one, which is ‘Arabian Nights’, I came to faint at the Padilla cinema watching the screening, regardless of its beauty,” added José Sacristán, who appreciated the work of Louis Bunuel yes Charles Sauro as Aragonese filmmakers at a time when he is preparing a project on Miguel Delibes.

To this feature film is added ‘Cómicos’, a film that pays homage to “a people who have decided, sometimes involuntarily, to make a living as a comedian” despite being a route “forced, difficult and with an implied dusty haze of the Spain of that time”. “The whole greyish form of enforced freedom and understanding of culture is in the background,” she said.

Regarding the balance he made on the evolution of the profession, the actor asked to “get away from the apocalypse and fatalisms” because, although “there are many things that still seem like rumors and echoes of times that seemed to have disappeared” and “the word crisis has always been linked to entertainment”, everything has improved.

“I celebrate accolades outside of purely competitive competition. If someone tells you you’re the best, the worst thing that can happen to you is for you to believe it. When you’ve been in this for a while, being rewarded is a sign that they don’t you’ve made many mistakes”, praised the actor, who was given a road, a plaque and a statue in his city despite “The greatest fortune is being able to choose your job.”

For his part, the deputy mayor of the Municipality of Zaragoza, Sara Fernándezhe thanked Sacristán for having “shared his art and his tastes” and went to the Aragonese capital to “welcome and kick off the Feroz Awards, which will be held on January 28 in the city”.

Both visited the Zaragoza Film Archive to celebrate the 40th anniversary of its creation, and for which they have prepared a tour of the seventh art full of film cameras, first cinematographs, film tapes and images of those who made films in Aragon.
