Newcastle beat Bruno Lage’s Wolverhampton this Friday by the smallest margin (1-0)in a match referring to the 32nd round of the Premier League.
The team from St. James Park was coming off three consecutive defeats, but managed to secure the victory following a maximum penalty converted by Chris Wood, in the 72nd minute.
Chris Wood saw a goal disallowed in the first half (24m), using VAR, but managed to get a penalty in a duel with José Sá in the second period.
The referee’s decision was much contested by the Portuguese goalkeeper, who sets a new record in the history of the Premier League: he is the first goalkeeper to commit three penalties in the same edition of the competition.
Newcastle scored, Wolverhampton tried to respond in vain. Bruno Lage’s team can regret the absence of important units such as Rúben Neves, Daniel Podence, Dendoncker or Raúl Jiménez.
