José Mujica was discharged from Casmu: his doctor said that there are “strong convictions” to believe that the cancer was “cured”
The former Uruguayan president underwent radiotherapy treatment for esophageal cancer that was detected months ago
Former President José Mujica was discharged after being admitted to the Casmu health insurance company on Monday.
This was reported by his personal physician, Raquel Pannone. Mujica was hospitalized in the hospital until Tuesday afternoon, when he was discharged.
“The situation is that he has a kidney disease and the consequences of radiotherapy have made it more difficult for him to eat and he has been drinking less fluids,” the doctor explained.
According to Pannone, Mujica’s kidney condition “deteriorated” and doctors prescribed him “serum.” He was undergoing this treatment at home, but it became difficult to insert the IV because of the “poor venous flow” due to his age and pathology.
“The studies will show whether kidney function began to improve with these days of serum or whether we remain in the same situation with more days of serum,” he said.
Regarding Mujica’s physical condition, Pannone said that “he is fragile” because “he is almost 90 years old” and has “underlying pathologies.” “If we manage to get him to drink water and recover, he will be better,” he said.
Regarding the esophageal cancer she was diagnosed with, the doctor said: “We have strong convictions that the cancer has been cured, there is no more cancer. We did several CT scans and that shows that there is no evidence of the tumor, but there is fibrosis that remains from the radiotherapy.” “We have to get the tissue to recover. At 90 years old everything is slower.”
“He has now gone to the farm, he will be without IVs for a while and then with IVs,” he added. “He lost weight because his activity has decreased and he was not eating what he used to. He is not in his best mood, but he understands the options we are giving him,” he added. “His kidneys are working little, less and less,” he said.
Pannone said that Mujica has planned an activity for Tuesday. “We will see if he can participate,” he said.
