Roma coach Jose Mourinho admitted that he is having his worst start to his season after his team lost 4-1 to Genoa the day before yesterday, touching the relegation zone in the Italian Premier League. Mourinho led Roma to two consecutive European finals, where he won the Conference League title in 2022, then lost to Sevilla in the European League final earlier this year, but falling to 16th place in the local league increases the pressure on the Portuguese coach.
Mourinho told reporters, “It is the worst start of my season as a coach as well, and yet I do not think Roma reached two consecutive European finals (before last season).”
Roma has achieved one win in six league matches so far, and the growing list of injuries has caused Mourinho to accumulate problems, especially in defence.
He added, “When we lose specific players, we lack quality, but it is not correct to explain the reason for the weakness in solidity during this result due to the absence of any player.” The lack of defensive balance is due to the entire team, and is related to what happens when we lose possession and when we retreat deep.” Mourinho stressed, “This is the squad we have. Whether it is better or worse, we must move forward and there is no room for regret.”
