José Luis Martín Frías photographed Nino Bravo 72 hours before he died in an accident: “I was devastated”

Nino Bravo was a happy man at the time of his death. After returning from his second American tour in 1972, he enjoyed the success of his fourth album, which included his most charismatic song.

In Spain, the artist was preparing a tour of several European countries and dreamed of traveling to Japan while working on his fifth album. However, all these dreams were shattered on the day of the fateful accident that ended his life and about which we spoke with Pepe Juesas, who was with him in the car.

Nino was only worried about the tour that would take him to America for more than nine months in 1974, which would mean a long separation from his family. Even so, he was looking forward to returning to Latin America. However, he was never able to return.

At And Now Sonsoles we have spoken with José Luis Martín Frías, his photographer and the person with whom he spent an entire day 72 hours before his death for a report that, unfortunately, was posthumous.

That day, Frías immortalized a Nino Bravo at the peak of his career and with his whole life ahead of him. A simple and friendly man who, during the session, chatted animatedly with a pastor before eating paella with his friend.

He discovered the news of his death on the radio and at that time he was doing the first issue of his magazine in which there were about 10 pages about Nino Bravo. “He was an indispensable person for me at that time because he was fed up with divos, and he had nothing divo about him,” he confessed.

The artist, he explained, never had a problem with it and although others say that it was complicated to work with, it was not true. Furthermore, for a photographer he was ideal.

Eva Ferri, Nino Bravo’s daughter

Eva Ferri was in her mother’s belly when her father, Nino Bravo, died. She and her sister have grown up knowing the artist’s story with great affection and with the memories that her mother has conveyed to them.

“They were very in love and all the memories she has with him are wonderful,” Eva said. For her, however, it is difficult to imagine what her father would be like today, but she believes that he would continue singing and enjoying her family, as well as being very handsome.
