Max Verstappen was not the only winning Verstappen in motorsport last weekend. Father Jos Verstappen managed to win the Monteberg Rally in a blood-curdling way. However, the road to it was far from easy due to his health, so he was happy to be able to enjoy racing again.
After his blistering victory in the Monteberg Rally, Jos appeared on the phone at Radio 538 to discuss his victory with Frank Dane. “Indeed, it went well yesterday. After a short absence it was the first time again. I had been out for a while. I didn’t feel so good. I had surgery for that. Now I feel great again, that’s why I now behind the wheel of a rally car.” When asked by Dane what exactly was going on, Verstappen senior keeps his jaw tight. “I prefer to keep that private, but it all turned out well. I feel good, that’s the most important thing.”
What makes rally so beautiful
Then it is discussed what Verstappen now finds so great about rally driving. “You have to stay focused yes, you do take some risks. It has fast corners and you pass trees. There is no room for error. It’s very challenging and I like that. It’s something new that I haven’t done it yet. I know all the circuits in Europe, so this is a new challenge. It’s nice and relaxed, they leave you alone,” says Max’s father.
Victory Max Verstappen
Finally, it is still about his son’s victory in Miami. Verstappen junior rode well from ninth on the grid to victory, so Jos is proud of how mature his son is behind the wheel these days. “I thought it was a great race. It was nice to see how calmly he overtook everyone. I had already predicted that he was going to win. He is not crazy. He is doing very well. That is amazing to see. proud father.”
