Jos B. was silent during a new interrogation in the Nicky Verstappen case

This let B.’s lawyer Gerald Roethof know to Shownieuws. He does not know why his client has been questioned again. “You should actually ask the OM that.”

The Public Prosecution Service (OM) has previously stated that it is not often the case that a police interrogation is scheduled during the appeal. The OM says that more would become clear about the reason for the questioning during the upcoming court hearings. Possibly already this week: next Tuesday is a so-called pre-trial review.

B. has always denied being responsible for Nicky’s death. He was silent for a long time, but during the substantive handling of the case he acknowledged that he had found the body of the 11-year-old. He stated that the boy had already died at that time. According to B. he did not report his discovery because he has a moral history.

12.5 years in prison

Last November, the court in Maastricht sentenced B. to 12.5 years in prison for, among other things, the abuse and kidnapping of 11-year-old Nicky Verstappen in 1998. The Public Prosecution Service had demanded fifteen years in prison and TBS with forced nursing. Both B. and the OM appealed.

Found on the Brunssummerheide

The 11-year-old Nicky Verstappen from Heibloem disappeared on August 10, 1998 when he was at a summer camp at the Brunssummerheide in Limburg. A day later, his body was found less than a mile away.

The case seemed to remain unsolved for a long time, until the name of B. emerged from a DNA test two years ago. His DNA was found on Nicky’s underpants and pajama pants. After a manhunt, he was arrested in Spain.
