Jorginho Leaves because Chelsea No Longer Needed

London

Mikel Arteta not the only reason for the move Jorginho the Arsenal. Jorginho left because Chelsea no longer need it.

Jorginho was one of the surprising transfers last January. Arsenal’s failure to recruit Moises Caicedo made them immediately target Jorginho.

In less than 48 hours, the transfer was completed and Jorginho was under contract until June 2024. Arsenal only needed to pay Chelsea £12 million.

Jorginho’s departure raises questions because he is actually still Chelsea’s mainstay this season. With tough competition in the Blue midfield, Jorginho appeared 25 times with one goal scored.

However, Jorginho feels that his energy is no longer needed by Chelsea because many new players have arrived. At the age of 32, Jorginho needs certainty to play in the first team.

Arsenal, who are in need of new energy in the midfield sector, are also Jorginho’s goal. He believes he can contribute to Mikel Arteta’s playing style as a manager.

“Obviously Arteta was one of the reasons I moved to Arsenal,” Jorginho told DAZN.

“He called me and everything went fast, we reached an agreement in less than 48 hours. I spoke to Chelsea and I know I am no longer part of their plans. I want a better career and the Arsenal project suits me.”

“They are a young team who are playing well and fit my characteristics. I considered every scenario and made a decision. Sometimes you have to accept when you are no longer part of the project and it’s time for you to leave.”
