Mexico City. Jorge Romero Herrera, who the capital’s prosecutor’s office implicated in the so-called Real Estate Cartel, requested leave as a federal deputy, to fully dedicate himself to seeking the national leadership of the National Action Party.
Since April of last year, the Attorney General’s Office of Mexico City reported that the former head of the Benito Juárez district allegedly benefited from a corruption network in the real estate sector in that municipality.
According to the prosecution, Romero’s father-in-law – who together with the national leader of the PAN, Marko Cortés, filed an injunction against the ministerial investigation – is believed to have obtained an apartment at a lower price than the real one in the City Towers Green & Black development.
In July of last year, three months after the prosecution revealed the details of the operations that supposedly link Romero Herrera, the second district court for criminal protection granted an injunction to the PAN members, within files 455/2023 and 482/2023.
Romero’s leave was authorized by the chamber and his substitute, Daniel Chimal García, was immediately sworn in. Yesterday, he announced that he would present a group of reservations in the debate on the reform of the Judicial Branch of the Federation.
“We cannot weaken the only power that is not subject to the whims of an authoritarian regime. We are going to fight to prevent Morena from going down the path to authoritarianism,” he declared.
