Marc Marquez believe, Jorge Martin has a better chance of winning MotoGP 2023 from Francesco Bagnaia. The reason is, Martin has nothing to lose.
Jorge Martin deposed Bagnaia from the throne of the standings after winning the sprint race Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia 2023. From Mandalika International Pertamina Circuit on Saturday (14/10), Martin emerged as the winner after starting from sixth position.
Meanwhile, Bagnaia was unable to do much after only starting from 13th position. The Ducati rider only pocketed two points after finishing the race in eighth position.
Thus, Jorge Martin has now collected 328 points, seven points ahead of Bagnaia in second place. Marquez gave his comments regarding the competition between the two riders.
“If I had to choose I would bet on Jorge because he doesn’t have any pressure. He doesn’t defend the title, if he finishes second then it’s okay but if he is champion then that would be amazing,” said the six-time MotoGP world champion.
“Meanwhile, what is naturally expected is that Pecco will be the champion. He is the defending champion, and sometimes defending the title is more difficult than winning it,” said Marquez.
Marquez himself actually experienced an unfortunate fate in the sprint race earlier. This Honda racer was forced to retire when the race had not even finished one lap due to an accident.
“I didn’t finish the race well. I missed a little at the break point and I went a little too fast, I thought I could control it. So that was completely my fault and tomorrow I will try to be more careful,” Marc Marquez said.
